It's a freelancer marketplace.

Some time ago I tried to start some freelance job, but I just got stressed and the money didn't worth it.
Now I would only do things for my projects or some consultant's jobs.

I'm trying to do something like you. I have read some books about lean startup, entrepreneurship, and with your message, just had put "sonho +- grande" in the list. Thanks!
Now i'm trying to apply some concepts in a personal small, but scalable project, in my "hobby area".
This is what i have learn until now:

- must be a area that you know, start resolve a problem that you have. (scratch your own itch). This is because is unbelievable hard to get info from the users needs.
- must focus on user feedback, direct contact, to understand the pain.
- its a long run game, like the stock market. You just can't start with a trader mind expecting lots of gain in short time.
- it's frustrating, but it's all about learning: Even if you start 10 projects, and all been failed, the 11o you will be a tiny little more easy if you learned with fails' (im going to #2 project, the #1 taught me a lot).

One thing that I've been searching for is to get IT side jobs. I'm not a professional programmer yet but if I can tell something that really helped me a lot is: show yourself.

Write public content or record videos. It can be some blog, or posts on websites like Medium, LinkedIn, or even Bastter.com, why not? It could be videos on YouTube too.

Writing content here almost every day helped me to get my first side job. It was a simple job, a web crawler to get some info on one website. I made this within two days but it only happened because I was writing content here every day because the client is a Bastter.com member. 

Another thing that can be helpful is to search for jobs on websites like Upwork, as said above. Or even ask your friends if they have some idea that a programmer can help. 

One friend of mine is the owner of one children's school. Their website was ugly and not responsive to mobile devices. I ask him if he wanted a new website and I made a new one for him. That's my second side job in this year of 2020. 

Because I'm the moderator of the technology area some other members of Bastter.com asked me if I can be the programmer which they need. 

Now I'm working on an idea of one startup, this can be my first long term project.

So, all of these things happened because I'm writing content here, recording videos, Youtube lives, etc. 

Show yourself and search for jobs. Or create your own job. 

I am in a similar situation.

 

I am an IT professor and I am working only with some research that has not challenged me anymore, making me have a lot of free time during the week.

 

In addition, during the past 30 days I have been more anxious to create a new business or find side projects to work.

 

No opportunity has already appeared, nor has any disruptive idea. But I am studying new technologies to be prepared when something comes up.

On "how to create new projects?", I believe in the combination of ideas in the books: Competing Against Luck, Lean Startup.

If it's something like a digital project I would add another one: ShapeUp.

Awesome guys, thanks a lot. Start some kind of digital content it's a great idea... It will challenge me in many aspects!!

@Abra, have you worked in some Upwork project? Worth it?

And thank you a lot @trankera and @ThiagoDV, I totally agree to start slow, identifying the possibilities and with something that I have pleasure to do... awesome tips.

I'll try to list everything that came up into my mind and then check the pros and cons... :)
