Something you do is interesting for you.
Something people do or say is interesting to you.

Use "statement" ao invés de "phrase".

No caso em questão:

"My statement shall be incorrect, at least I've tried"


I’ve tried to help you.
The action happened in the past but I don’t say when.



I tried to help you yesterday.
The action happened in the past but I say when.

Shall = will. Shall é bastante formal e geralmente só se usa em tag questions (shall we?) Como ele quis indicar a possibilidade de ter errado, poderia dizer: my sentence MIGHT not be perfect. Assim fica melhor.

Pode ser, mas "shall be" nesse sentido é "caso esteja".

Caso minha frase esteja incorreta (my statement shall be incorrect), at least I've tried (ao menos tentei).
