Alcohol had its hands around my neck Then I put the bottle down 10 lessons I learned from getting and staying sober

1. You are not your disease Addiction will chew you up and spit you out It doesn't care what it takes away from you Each day you wake up saying this is the last, only to end up drinking again that night

2. Relationships matter It's hard to care about others when you only care about yourself • How will I get money • Who can I take advantage of • When can I have another drink These were questions I asked my self daily

3. Life on life's terms I could make 100 excuses on why I need a drink But they are all BUCHETTI Today I don't need to numb myself to escape

4. Perfection is a myth No one is perfect Im not afraid to admit it because it's true We all fight our battles, some in public others in private

5. Trust is earned It takes years to build and seconds to destroy I'm sorry... Yeah that's not going to cut it anymore

6. Happiness is a choice Some days are good Some days are bad You can make each day a bit better by celebrating the little wins Any day I wake up with my keys, wallet and phone... I won JK but on a real note, I can't tell you how many times I woke up without all three

7. This too shall pass You might hurt You could feel trapped You may feel like quitting I'm here to tell you that it won't last forever Our present is just that... our present Take it at face value and reset tomorrow

8. You aren't given anything you can't handle My grandmother sent me a card with this saying when I was in rehab It has stuck with me to this day You are much stronger than you can imagine

9. Make amends For those that don't know Amends are making right on mistakes you had made in your past With alcohol came many amends

10. Love is stronger than any drink First you must love yourself and that may take awhile Then find a partner who wants the best version of you If it wasn't for my girlfriend I wouldn't be the man I am today
